Lynden Transport is a subsidiary of Lynden Incorporated, a family of transportation and
logistics companies primarily serving Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, with additional
service extending throughout the United States and internationally. Lynden Transport
provides multi-mode, full-service, regional, common and contract
carrier servicing the entire State of Alaska. Lynden Transport entered the market in 1954
when our trucks pioneered the newly completed Alcan highway and began providing scheduled
over-the-road service to major Alaska communities. Today Alcan highway service is
available for truckload quantities only. LTL is serviced on motor-water-motor routes using
steamships, barges, and the Alaska State Ferry System as underlying carriers on
"marine highway routes."
Lynden Transport is the only company serving all Alaska highway points connected by a
system of terminals, schedules and computerized information flow.
There are really two marketplaces in Alaska, the largest being
"Central Alaska" or the "railbelt area." Anchorage, Fairbanks, Homer,
Kodiak, Kenai, Soldotna, Valdez, Wasilla and Prudhoe Bay are the major points. Service on
LTL and TL freight is provided by steamship route twice weekly from the Port of Tacoma,
Washington to the Port of Anchorage, Alaska with highway connections to all other points.
Southeast Alaska, the Panhandle area, has no coastal highways and all
points must be served by water or air. The major communities include Juneau, the State's
capitol, Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Sitka, Haines and Skagway. Lynden Transport
provides two levels of service to Southeast. One is an expedited route connecting with the
Alaska State Ferry System. It provides a surface alternative to air on LTL shipments and
is a device for moving fresh meat, dairy and produce northbound, as well as fresh
ocean products southbound. The second route is more commonly used for general freight and
that's "Lynden Water Service." It is twice weekly barge service using our sister
company, Alaska Marine Lines, as an underlying carrier.
Lynden Transport maintains all risk marine cargo coverage in excess of D.O.T. minimum
requirements for cargo,
general, and
vehicle liability insurance. Some
released valuations exist on items of extraordinary value. Please consult with us should
questions arise in this area.
A uniform straight bill of lading is sufficient.
Terms
can be prepaid, collect or in combination.
Packaging requirements are the same as in the contiguous 48 states. These regulations
are out-lined in the National Motor Freight Classification.
Lynden Transport will handle C.O.D. or collect shipments to all highway points. Some
restrictions apply to rural communities that require prepayment only. Typically, these
exception points are listed on our routing guide as "air beyond" points.
Lynden Transport provides free protective service on products susceptible to freezing
when shipped in LTL quantities. A notation should be made "Protective Service
Required" or simply "KFF" (Keep-From-Freezing) on the bill of lading. We do
charge for KFF service on full truckloads.
Lynden Transport has the ability to trace shipments through to destination by shipper
and consignee name, or by connecting line pro number.
Lynden's knowledgeable personnel are
trained in handling hazardous materials and are in
compliance with the requirements as
outlined in the Hazardous Materials Transportation Uniform Safety Act of 1990.
Additionally, we are in adherence to all the classification, placarding and packaging
requirements of HM 181.
Lynden provides the most advanced data interchange system in
Alaska. Rating, billing, expediting, manifesting, delivery information, transit data,
tracing, as well as document imaging, are electronic. EDI trading partners are welcomed.
Lynden Transport has truckload capabilities for van, refrigerated, flat bed and heavy
haul commodities. As one might imagine, all Lynden equipment is "Arctic ready" for operation in severe,
prolonged cold temperatures. All terminals have heated platforms, all delivery trucks are
radio dispatched, insulated, heated and are equipped with lift gates. |
